Just been offered < 24Mb/s ADSL2+ by my ISP for the same price as my current
8Mb/s.

Can't seem to find much information on it.

As I'm getting 6.4Mb/s currently from the 8Mb/s service, does that mean I
would get proportional the same i.e. about 16Mb/s from the 24Mb/s
connection?

Are there any down sides to getting ADSL2+?

The other thing I can't find is - do you need a new router? If so - any
recommendations?

TIA

No.

ADSL 2+ has greatest benifit only on short phone lines.

My guess is you'd get about 8Mb/s.

I'd have probably guessed a bit higher, depends if the 6.4Mb/s is a
sync speed or a speedtest type speed. Also worth bearing in mind in
your decision that whilst your downspeed may not increase by the same
proportion the upstream speed difference may be much more in
comparison so depends if you have a requirement for that benefit.

You mean ADSL2+ service from BT Wholesale (WBC) sold to you by Entanet

Search <http://www.thinkbroadband.com> for views on that BT development.

I'd check if you are in a Be/O2 enabled exchange as well, as usage
restrictions on their services could well be less :-)

You need to be using an ADSL 2+ capable modem.
Your modem is probably in your router in which case you would need a new
router if the modem in your current one doesn't do ADSL 2+.

Out of the two ADSL routers I've used the Netgear DG834v3 seems best.

Thanks - found that info on your link. The comments make me think that I
will wait a while yet.

I was about the same, got 6mb when on a maximum of 8mb, with BE now and
get 17mb.
