Just rewire everything to some new master sockets properly. Its not hard.

It is with the amount of extensions I've got.

BT don't really care as long as the wiring is good.
What they object to is having to undo customer bodges. Which it seems
you have.

I have a "BT bodge" by the looks of it.

I have extensively rewuired BT incmings with cat 5 and god knows
what..BT's normal response is to say ..'oh dear, you should have used a
proper connector block there, I'll just fit that for you: But the
problem seems to be on the pole, so its not that thats causing it, and
yes a cuppa would be gratefully received mate'.

I hope TalkTalk are similar...

Sorry to be picky with you G, but that point is no longer true, well maybe
for BT but not for Openreach.
Anything from the pole onwards could be chargable, dropwire going thru
tree in front garden...chargable, going thru tree in next doors garden,
not etc. I just can't wait for the arguments to start now they are
actually rolling out the external NTEs, it's going to get
very...........how does one call it.........interesting. Yet to see
anything about a DSL filter to go with it yet though.

I take your point, but if the tree in my front garden damages the dropwire
I'm sure BT will expect me to ask them to fix it at my cost rather than for
me to shin up the pole myself ...
What are these external NTEs? Are they waterproof?

Supposedly, if fitted correctly the normal ingress water is stopped (all
bets are off if you have a flood), In other words if fitted correctly they
should be fine, having said that I met my first BT66 jammed between the
bottom of a door frame & the ground today so a lot will depend on who's
fitting them. The only thing which troubles me is that you require a
special test lead to be able to test from the test 'socket' inside so how is
the normal man in the street going to do it, yes they'll be able to
disconnect the internal wires but as for test to see if he has dial tone
etc.......... or should that be ??????????? |

What about security? If you have a BT66 fitted what is to stop me coming
along and plugging in the (special test) lead and using your phone line?

*ding* the BT network is totally insecure and open to abuse - always has
been, always will be. The external NT and it's plug in test jack may make
it a little more convenient, but rest assured security is about 0% on the
network at large.

The security cable tie that's what...
Yes I know but that's what they tell us. Yet to get my hands on one of the
new beasties so am unsure about what 'security' they may have. What I have
heard (for what it's worth) is that the BT cabling will behind an plate
secured by a security type alen screw (alen key with hole in middle) |
